Diversity in Sport is a hot topic at the moment (as it should be).
If you haven’t seen the Nike maternity ‘made for the toughest athletes’ campaign then where have you been?

Nike has placed itself at the centre of the diversity and inclusion stage yet again with an outstanding video campaign featuring pregnant and post-partum athletes to launch their new range of maternity sportswear. Proving yet again that we have come so far, yet have so far to go when we think about the non-existence of pregnant women featuring in ads outside of softly-softly nappy and baby food ads…

Here at Greenfield we work with a number of National and International sports companies and federations (sadly not Nike, though).

We recently had an opportunity to be part of the Diversity and Inclusion conversation and strategy for a client, a National Sports Organisation Body who were recruiting for a Senior Product Manager.

When we think about the Sports and Tech /IT industries, it’s no secret that both sectors are hugely male-dominated. So it’s no surprise that roles and teams in Sports Tech are significantly, if not completely male-heavy.

Our client is making huge steps to be as diverse and inclusive as possible with their team strategies going forwards, especially with their Product Management Team.

We compiled a magnificent shortlist of exceptional candidates that met the diversity and inclusion requirements of our client, three candidates of which were taken through to interview.

The client was delighted to appoint one of these exceptional candidates as their Senior Product Manager.

So, we not only filled a role with someone brilliant, we have also placed a woman into a senior leadership role within the Sports Tech industry.

And whilst we are delighted about the outcome, it is also worth noting that we want to move to a time where these appointments are not noteworthy anymore and, in fact, the norm!
