Investing in your Employees

How Modern Companies are Doing it

A well-known technique for business development and growth is to be a company that is actively investing in your employees. It will take time for all companies to realise and implement this into their routine, but some of them already have and guess what- it’s working!

If you are being sceptical about investing in your employees, or simply don’t know how you should be investing in your employees here is some useful advice for you.

Leader or Boss:

You have probably already heard the comparison between the boss and the leader, but let’s just go over this first. Every company has a boss; someone who oversees everything. How realistic is it that this one person that remains in charge of everything, doesn’t lose their nerve once in a while? It is not.

It is important to inspire your employees to make their own decisions, encouraging them in a positive way makes a huge difference and also makes them feel valued. For instance, if you are a tough boss, often serious and sometimes angry, your employees will not feel at ease and it may cause them stress.

Creating an atmosphere where you actually encourage your employees to act on their own takes time, but it will make a huge difference.

Creating the Learning Atmosphere:

No matter how long your employees have been at your company, there is always room for them to learn and grow as an individual.

Setting a yearly budget for your employee education and improvement should be seen as more of an investment than spending. Ask your employees what is it that they would like to learn in order to improve their performance. According to their answers consider organising professional training, team building activities, software training or even just personal development training.

Encouraging your team to learn and improve themselves will benefit you in multiple ways. They will become more educated and professional. As well as this, they will feel valued and cherished, which is the feeling that drives us to be more productive and successful. Finally, they will feel part of the company. Being invested in as an individual has a lot of positive benefits upon one’s productivity and well-being.

Does Experience Matter:

Think about it, everyone starts somewhere! It is worth considering hiring someone at the beginning of their career, or even straight out of university because they are entering the world of work with a fresh outlook. This will mean that you can shape them to be the perfect fit for your company, but they will also bring innovative and new ideas.

As well as this, investing in younger graduates with less experience will mean that they are more positive towards change. Employing someone who has been doing the job for 20+ years can sometimes mean that they are stuck in their ways and this can be harder to manage.

As well as this, it is important to mention that as the business becomes more successful, you must invest in new staff. It is easy to give current employees more work, but this results in an increase in stress and therefore increases un-productivity. Investing in new staff may be more expensive, but it ensures that your business is going the right way, up!

Create an Image of Success:

When you hire new people, whichever position they are applying for, make sure that they feel like have the potential to be able to work their way up in the business.

It is important to stress the possibility of advancement and promotion as nobody likes to remain at the same level for too long. After 3 to 5 years, people start feeling detached from their jobs and they need a change. Let them know that change is possible inside the company. That way they will look for a way to improve their position in your company rather than leaving you for competitors.

After all, a machine is only as good as its parts. If your workers are happy in the first place, they will be more productive, more professional and ambitious. Also, if you nourish their ambition to learn and grow, they will develop the feeling of gratitude towards you and the company, and you will be repaid by their hard work.
